  1. How the Nervous System Works HB&H Chapter 7.1 Pages 190-194

  2. Jobs of the Nervous System • This system includes your brain, spinal cord and the nerves throughout your body • Also includes sense organs like eyes and ears.

  3. Jobs of the Nervous System • Your nervous system operates in 3 different ways: • Receiving Information • Responding to Information • Maintaining Homeostasis • What is a Stimulus? A Response? • Stimulus: a change in environment • Response: reaction to a stimulus • Homeostasis: stability of an organism’s internal environment.

  4. Neurons • Neuronsare cells that carry information through your nervous system • The information neurons carry are called nerveImpulses • Impulses travel up to 120 meters per second.

  5. Neurons Structure • The impulse is then sent awayfrom the Neuron through an Axon(like arteries). • Neurons have a nucleus inside a Cell Body • Impulses come to the Cell Body fromDendrites

  6. Neuron Types

  7. Exit Pass • What is a Neuron and what do they carry?
