Jobs of the Nervous System • This system includes your brain, spinal cord and the nerves throughout your body • Also includes sense organs like eyes and ears
Jobs of the Nervous System • Your nervous system operates in 3 different ways: • Receiving Information • Responding to Information • Maintaining Homeostasis • What is a Stimulus? A Response? • Homeostasis: stability of an organisms internal environment
Neurons • Neuronsare cells that carry information through your nervous system • The information neurons carry are called nerve Impulses • Impulses travel up 120 meters per second
Neurons Structure • The impulse is then sent away from the Neuron through an Axon(like arteries) • Neurons have a nucleus inside a Cell Body • Impulses come to the Cell Body from Dendrites
What to Work On • Read Section 7.1 (pages 190-194) • Answer the Section Review Questions (page 194, #’s 1-3) DUE: Friday, February 17th
