Stephanie ButterworthMaster of Arts In TeachingIndian Knoll Elementary • 4th Grade, Kimberly Brown • Reading, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Writing • 935 students • Located in Canton, GA, in a rural fringe territory, less than five miles from an urban area. • Predominately high to middle class population, with some low-income students. • Parent involvement high.
My Class • 31 students: 16 boys, 15 girls • Predominately Caucasian, 5 Hispanic students, one Asian student. • 8 students with EIPs • 5 students in ESOL. • 1 student identified as EBD. • 1 student identified with ODD.
Class Schedule • 7:20 – 8: Morning work • 8 – 9: Reading Block I • 9 – 9:35: Social Studies Block I • 9:35 – 10:15: Specials • 10:15 – 10:30: Social Studies Block I (cont.) • 10:30 – 11:10: Language Arts / Writing • 11:10 – 11:30: Recess • 11:34 – 12:04: Lunch • 12:04 – 12:15: Restroom/Prepare for rotation • 12:15 – 1:15 : Reading Block II • 1:15 – 2: Social Studies Block II

Lesson Plans Benjamin Franklin Lesson Essential Content/Objectives: Students will be able identify Benjamin Franklin and understand his contributions and importance to the American Revolution and present day American life. Metaphor Poem Lesson Essential Content/Objectives: Students will independently generate an eight line, metaphor poem containing two, four line stanzas. Louisiana Purchase Lesson Essential Content/Objectives: Students will independently show their understanding of events associated with the Louisiana Purchase and the time period in which they occurred. They will also gain a better understanding of the lasting effects of the Louisiana Purchase on America.
