  1. Digital Citizenship Poster • Look at the poster – so far…. • If your card is not up there, Ms. Ray has it because it does not look finished. Please come and get it. • We will discuss the time line for completion.

  2. Using Lab Notebooks in The Science Classroom Ms. Ray

  3. Why science notebooks? • Organizes your learning and keeps everything in one place • Demonstrates your learning and reflections • Helps you revise, deepen understanding of the material, and make connections • Real scientists use some sort of notebook (paper or electronic)

  4. Learning process using notebooks

  5. Notebook Materials • Spiral notebooks (with plastic cover) • Colored Pencils • Tape!!! • Staples – OUCH! • Glue – wavy pages that stick together

  6. Table of contents • Draw a Table of Contents (SEE EXAMPLE ON THE WHITEBOARD and be exact – 4 columns. Use a ruler and colored pencils. See below for order.) * = reference pages

  7. Notebook Set-up (Table of Contents) After drawing and labeling your table of contents, tape in the following handouts. See pages numbers listed below. * = reference pages

  8. Notebook Set-up (page #’s) • Number ALL of your pages, yes all of your pages… be careful not to skip any pages! (This creates problems later on.) • Write page numbers on the BOTTOM outside CORNERS

  9. Notebook Set-up (Front Cover) • Personalize the cover. Include: • Full Name • Name of the Class • PLMS - 2014-15 • Ms. Ray – period # • Decorate the cover: Minimum -- A drawing that is related to the class • (If your cover is dark or has a design… Ms. Ray will give you an index card to decorate and label.) • Ready? Grab some permanent markers and start decorating…

  10. What if you don’t finish in class today? • It’s homework. • It’s due by Wednesday • Tomorrow we are taking a district pre-assessment

  11. Other notebook information… • Look through the other slides for more information.

  12. WE are all on the SAME page at the same time! • So what does that mean if you run out of space?... • It means you make flip page • Tape on the outside edge, top edge… Ms. Ray doesn’t have a preference.
