  1. SPS as LHC Injector Status Report for BDI/EM • BCT: • High intensity DCCTs (x2) installed in the SPS (2000) • Modified in 2002 to avoid saturation for LHC beam (to be tested) • BA1 noisier than BA3 but both within specs • STATUS: Operational • FBCTs (x3) installed in SPS, TT2 & TT10 (2001/2002/2003) • Calibration unit allows 200MHz calibration to within 2% of DCCT • Long cables  bunch to bunch isolation is not total • Metallisation v external cavity compensation to be tested (TT40) • STATUS: Under Test – available for operation • FBCTProto electronics installed in SPS,TT2 & TT10 (2003) • Works well for total intensity  can replace old transfer line BCTs • Calibration works with DC measurements to within 2% of DCCT • Still to be fully tested for bunch to bunch mode • Software not yet ready under BiSCoTo STATUS: Under Test – available for operation Future Work (Total cost ~ 20 - 40kCHF): • Modification & Production of final electronics: ~10kCHF for 5 cards (TT2,TT10,SPS, LAB + Spare) for 2003 ~10kCHF for 5 TTCbi VME64x cards for 2003/2004 4 VME64x Chassis (AB/CO?) • Improvement of the long signal cables for TT10 & SPS (if required) ~20kCHF • Removal of metal coating (if required) ~2kCHF

  2. SPS as LHC Injector Status Report for BDI/EM • Head-Tail: • New Scope Bought & Software Re-written (2002/2003) • To be tested within the next few weeks on the SPS • STATUS: Not operational (old system still OK) Future Work: • Closed-Orbit Compensation Electronics for 2003 • Bergoz units under test (problems for partially filled machine) Electronics under development ~5-10kCHF (PCB design & manufacture) • BPM: • TTPOS installed in TT2 & TT10 (2001/2002) • STATUS: Operational • BPCE (x3) installed in LSS4 (2001/2002) • Non-linearity correction verified to large amplitudes in 2002 • STATUS: Operational • Extraction interlock system • Will initially be based on MOPOS system linked to BPCE • Software modified to include linearisation & interlock capability • Change of hardware necessary only if tests unsatisfactory • STATUS: To be tested in 2003 Future Work : • Install duplicate interlock system in LSS6 for 2004/2005 • Recuperation of 3 BPCE necessary (in storage?) • Possible need for additional cables ~5-10kCHF
