How to make a Graph. Step 1 - Collect your data. Step 2 – Label your axis. Usually, the first column of your data is the x axis on your graph. This is called your Independent variable The second column is the y axis – called your Dependant variable

Step 2 – Label your axis • Usually, the first column of your data is the x axis on your graph. This is called your Independent variable • The second column is the y axis – called your Dependant variable • Label x (bottom), y (left) and put your title up top.
Step 3 – Calculate R/L for each axis Range Lines Range = the largest number you need to plot Lines = the number of lines on your axis This number tells you what each line on your graph is worth!
If the number is difficult to count by, (2.35, 12.1, 0.27) then round up to an easier number (0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.333, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10) Your graph will shorten by a little bit as a result
Step 4 – Fill in your axis • Use your R/L value to fill in the values on each line of your axis.
Step 5 – Plot your data • Use the x and y coordinates to mark each spot on your graph. • Mark the spot with a dot and a circle • This shows you are aware of the possibility of experimental error.
Step 6 – Draw a line of best fit • If it’s a straight line, use a ruler. • If it’s a curved line, draw a smooth curve through as many dots as possible • This also shows your awareness of experimental error.
Step 7 • Sit back and admire your graph.
