What is Data Quality? • Data quality refers to the quality of the information it represents in the real world fit for its intended use or purpose such as in business, decision making, planning, or operation
Dimensions of Data Quality • Accuracy – the degree with which data correctly represents something “real” that is intended to represent or portrayed. • Timeliness – refers to the time expectation for accessibility and availability of the information. • Currency – refers to the degree to which information is correct with that it models at a specific time. • Consistency – refers to data values in one data set in harmony or alike with values of another data set.

How can we improve data quality? • Establish internal controls or procedures on conducting periodic accuracy assessments • Have similar controls for ensuring reporting requirements are conducted • Establish a baseline • Breaking down data issues into key attributes • Identify the most problematic/important data quality issues to focus data quality improvements
