What is a rainforest? A Rainforest is a wet, hot, humid forest. They are found near to the equator.
Layers of The Rainforest There are four layers of the rainforest, The forest floor, Understory ,Canopy , Emergent layer. The forest floor is very dark, it only has about 2% of sunlight. There are many animals such as: Leaf cutter ants, Tigers, Jaguars, Anacondas and Ocelots but Ocelots can climb to upper layers of the Rainforest. The under story is less dark. There are also many animals like: Boa constrictors, Lizards, Frogs, Hoatzins and Chameleons.
Animals of the rainforest Boa constrictor: Lives in all four layers, eats: any thing that moves…Frogs, rodents , birds , bats , monkeys , and other small mammals. Leaf cutter ant: Lives on Forest floor, eats fungus, one inch they have strong jaws which they use to cut up leaves. Sloth: lives in the Canopy, usually eats leaves, usually between 50 and 60 cm long. Most animals are in danger of dying!
deforestation Did you know 80,000 trees size of a football pitch are being destroyed each and every day? 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced just by the Amazon Rainforest! Every year, up to 5 million hectares of Rainforest are destroyed. If we keep cutting trees down then we won’t have any more Rainforests in the year 2050!
