  14. You Are Not the FinalSource of Authority • Theme of Oprah—She has lived life by her instincts, by intuition, buy her gut. • She has made that the final arbiter in spiritual matters as well • This is how she began to move away from biblical Christianity

  15. You Are Not the FinalSource of Authority • “I am guided by a higher calling. It’s not so much a voice as it is a feeling. If it doesn’t feel right to me. I don’t do it.” Time, 1988

  16. 1. You Are Not the FinalSource of Authority • “I have church with myself: I have church walking down the street. I believe in the God force that lives inside all of us, and once you tap into that you can do anything.”

  17. What Would Jesus Say? • Finding the right way to go spiritually is not found in what she feels but in what He says • The Bible for her is not the final source of authority • Matthew 4:4; Matthew 7:24

  18. What Would Jesus Say? • There is a way that seems right • We are fallen creatures who need our hearts and minds refashioned by God’s Word • Ephesians 4:17-21

  19. It Is Not Lawful for You To Have Steadman • John 4:16-18 • “The man you now have is not your husband” • Before life could be right with Him, she had to turn from her sinful relationship

  25. To Misrepresent God Brings Severe Consequences • A form of monism • Points: Eternal “spirit” of some kind Could be called life force, nature, Allah, or “the power” etc.

  26. To Misrepresent God Brings Severe Consequences • “I am Spirit come from the Greatest Spirit. I am Spirit.” Oprah • Life and its forms are really an illusion • There is no actual you or actual god

  27. To Misrepresent God Brings Severe Consequences • Man’s problem is not sin but ignorance or illusion • He needs to grasp that the material is not real and move toward a higher consciousness

  28. To Misrepresent God Brings Severe Consequences • Jesus is not God, he is simply one teacher among others who found the way to liberation • We seek enlightenment and we may continue in other life forms

  29. To Misrepresent God Brings Severe Consequences • It is not clear whether she holds to a return to a complete loss of personal identity • Jesus would say to her that she stands in great danger of misrepresenting God and the way to Him
