Geneva Meeting with UNHCR High Commissioner • Her Highness was invited to visit UNHCR head quarter in Geneva by the High Commissioner. The visit took place on the 16th of January, 2013. • “Today we stand here not as politicians, not as religious leaders, but simply as fellow human beings who refuse to look the other way during one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes in human history. I notice media headlines calling this a “Syrian crisis”, but the truth is that it has spilled over and escalated into a Lebanese crisis, a Jordanian crisis, a Turkish crisis - in short, it is no longer just an Arab crisis but a crisis for humanity.” International

Launch of The Big Heart Campaign for Syrian Refugee Children • Coinciding with the InternationalWorld Refugee Day, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi launched a campaign on the 20th of June 2013 to support the Syrian Refugee Children. International

The Big Heart : Phase 2 • In response to freezing temperatures (-9 degrees C in Iraq, and below freezing point in Syria and neighboring countries). • Launched in October 29th and ran until 31st of January with thousands of blankets and warm clothing donated to Red Crescent for refugee children. The Big Heart : Phase 3 • 78% of the Syrian Refugees in neighboring countries surrounding Syria are women and children. • Many of these children haven’t received any education for approximately 3 years. Education: International
The Big Heart : Phase 3 • Currently in progress and running until the 7th of May, the third phase of the campaign hopes to provide education opportunities to 1.2 million Syrian Refugee Children. • The Big Heart Campaign is part of an international campaign ‘No Lost Generation’ that provides education to Syrian Refugee Children and gives them a better future.
