Rationale for the Anthropocene Age • Transition from Nature-based to Human-based evolution: • 'Noosphere' (Vernadsky, de Chardin)‏ • 'Vedanta' (Ultimate reality) or Gaia (Tagore, Gandhi, Russell, Einstein, Aurobindo, Lovelock, Campbell, Margulis)‏ • 'Creative vitality' (Bergson)‏ • Third level of Planetary organization – Information / Knowledge economy / Cultural ethical memes

Evolutionary Transitions based on Information & Knowledge • Autopoiesis (self-regulation) of Centre-Periphery asymmetries towards Homeorhesis: • Economic & Social globalization • Political globalization • Cultural globalization • Environmental & Resources globalization • Financial globalization • Knowledge globalization

Emerging Ethical Issues – 3 Clusters • Inter-generational ethics – Enshrined in law • Distributional ethics & justice – Problematic implementation • Citizen & Corporate behavioural ethics – Standards, Recognition & Educational modalities yet to be defined = Critical for Education for Sustainable Futures

Panel Objectives • To identify ethical issues emanating from various forms of globalisation as exemplified in global-regional-local asymmetries affecting individuals, societies and economies, exacerbated by climate change, so as • To characterise and validate them, • To learn from them, and • To explore designing policy mechanisms guaranteeing individual & collective freedoms & security as the basis for global order, prosperity and civilization.
