Why take rigorous courses? • We encourage students to take the most rigorous courses they can handle. • Helps support students by preparing them for the rigors of college.
Rigorous Courses We recommend taking challenging courses including: • Advanced Placement (AP Courses) • College in the Schools (CIS Courses) • Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO). • Honors Courses
PSEO ApplicationsPost Secondary Enrollment Options U of M Twin Cities: • Applications are available online at www.cce.umn.edu • Deadline is April 1st, 2012. • Average GPA for Fall admission tends to be around 3.70 GPA on average. Concordia University St. Paul: • Apply online at www.csp.edu • Students with a 3.25 GPA or higher are encouraged to apply. • Deadlines is May 1st, 2012. MCTC: • Apply online at www.minneapolis.edu • Students with a 3.0 GPA or higher are encouraged to apply. • Deadline for Fall semester 2009 is June 1st, 2012.
Practice for College Entrance Exams10th graders PLAN Test = Pre-ACT Exam • Who: Given to all 10th graders in Minneapolis. • Test given in fall of Sophomore year. • Helps you understand your academic strengths & career interests. • Cost: Free for students. • Plan Test Interpretation: March 6-8th.
Practice for College Entrance Exams11th graders PSAT Test = Pre-SAT Exam • Given to Juniors who register and to Sophomores if space is available. • When: Wednesday, October 9th, 2012. • Cost: $17.00 approximately. • Juniors who scores high may qualifyfor the National Merit Scholarship.
ACT/SAT • Required for entrance into most 4 year post-secondary schools. • Recommended to take in April or June of junior year. • Most colleges accept either one. • Ask your counselor about a fee waiver if you need one.
Information for Juniors • Visit your counselor at least once per semester • Know you are on track to graduate • Register for the PSAT in October • Attend the National College Fair in October • Narrow college options & visit colleges • Prepare & register for the ACT or SAT
Information for Sophomores • Visit your counselor at least once per semester. • Take rigorous courses. • Utilize tutoring services. • Makeup missing credits. • Use a planner. • Register for the PSAT (if space is available).

My Life Plan My Life Plan is a post-secondary planning graduation requirement for the class of 2010 and beyond. My Life Plan asks the following questions: Who am I? Assessing and reflecting on • Interests • personality • Learning styles
Where am I going? • Researching career and labor market information. • Researching education and training requirements for careers. • Job shadows, internships, summer employment opportunities.
How do I get there? • Researching and applying for college • Financial aid and scholarships • Development and maintenance of skills • Personal and professional application of skills • Interpersonal skills • Problem solving skills • Self management skills • Ability to learn throughout life
