Contractor Outreach • The Program and how we went about it… • Needs Assessment • Opportunity • Solution/Proposal • Benefit • Implementation • Outcomes • Next Steps
Contractor Outreach • Board Outreach • Compliance matrix initiated a look at what we were doing locally • Officers, VP Membership, VP Professional Development, President involved in looking at; • What could we do to involve others in the chapter • Assessed local needs – MSO, contractors • Basic Technical Training need stood out • Contractor Training • Number one request • (Contractors) How do we get training without a full staff? • (MSO) how do we know the contractor is trained? • Needs Assessment (What did we do, and why)
Contractor Outreach • Opportunity (How can the chapter reach out) • Basic Technical Training Program • MSO’s can not do Contractor Training • Contractors may or may not have the staff or facility to train • The chapter could provide a vehicle to train contractors • Build a Network, Chapter, MSO, Contractors
Contractor Outreach • Solution & Proposal (The Program - Who, how, etc.) • The Central California Chapter, SCTE would provide a Cable Basics training opportunity for local Cable contractors. • The chapter would use an SCTE/NCTI curriculum based on From Tap To Home – The SCTE Installation Manual. • The chapter would supplement this material based on requested needs (From both the MSO’s and the Contractors) • Training would be provided by Chapter Members • Training would be offered to Contractor SCTE members only
Contractor Outreach • Benefit (WIIFM - Chapter, MSO’s, Contractors) • Chapter • Increased involvement between the board, members, MSO’s, vendors, and contractors • Improved visibility with vendors, MSO’s, and contractors • Increasedmembership • MSO's • SCTE Certified contractors, Known levels of training • Costs minimized – Reduced truck rolls, reduced call-backs, reduced customer complaints • Contractors • SCTE Certified employees, Known levels of training • Costs minimized – Reduced truck rolls, reduced call-backs, reduced customer complaints, reduced charge-backs
Contractor Outreach • Implementation (The proposed process) • Six modules would be offered per year • The modules would be presented in a series of half-day sessions, conducted in two-day segments • Interested contractors’ would provide the chapter the names of participants, • Contractors would provide each participant a copy of the manual for the training modules they would be attending. • Chapter would provide location, and instructors
Contractor Outreach • Outcomes (What worked, what didn’t) • Plus/Deltas • Chapter was able to engage the local contractors • Chapter was able to involve the local MSO’s and gain greater support for SCTE • Chapter increased its membership • Chapter members stretched and grew as they worked to present sessions • Not all contractors participated, or were interested • Time constraints and business activities did not allow full implementation of the program • Curriculum was difficult to sync to current certification material
Contractor Outreach • Next Steps (What we will do now?) • Assess the needs of Contractors/MSO’s - New Technologies • How can we overcome the time/resource constraints • How do we work with attrition • How do we format the material for the training • Simple • Up to date • Hands on • Modules presentable in “chunks” short time frames.
