3. The Goal of this Talk • Not to bore, but to inform so, let me tell you a bit about our Library Liaison Program. • The WKU Library Liaison’s program is organizationally based in a professional relationship between the departmental or program assigned representative and an assigned librarian liaison. Library liaisons at WKU Libraries are assigned and coordinate their roles through their departmental supervisor and the Collection Services Coordinator.

The Library Liaison program basically exists to • Provide your classes with formal classroom research instruction and library tours. • Provide you and your students individualized research assistance. • Provide you with a voice on what and how the Library’s collection is developed and solicit your input on purchases from our Library Materials Budget. • And, there are several other service components to the library liaison program which are as follows:

A WKU library liaison should also • Be familiar with the your research and teaching interests. • If requested, make visits to the respective departmental representative, departmental meetings or new faculty member to explain who they are and the services we offer. • Provide you not only vendor supplied resource files on a regular basis, but also flyers, ads for serials or serial samples and any other materials to help your representative remain current on what’s available. • Inform the departmental representative as to the status of the existing library funds allocated for their department an the timetable for their expenditure.

A WKU library liaison should also • Evaluate, acquire or weed the collections within their subject area. • Communicate to you about our acquisitions process and our collection policies. • Stay current on curriculum changes and or faculty additions within their subject areas. • Be aware of the accreditation requirements for new and existing academic programs. • Assist faculty proposing a new course offerings and in determining the adequacy of holdings when new courses are proposed.

Some Physical Resources we have right now! • Nearly 800,000 books • Over 3,000 Serial subscriptions • Over 900,000 Government Documents (67% Depository) • Over 2 million microforms • Over 30,000 CDs, audiotapes, LPs and DVDs • Over 7,800 Graphic and Cartographic materials • Over 3,000 linked internet resources including: • E-journals • E-books And, we are growing and expanding all the time.
