  5. Our Story:United Methodist Women is a community of women, rooted in our Christian faith, who turn faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world.

  6. When women, children and youth thrive, we all thrive!

  7. How can UMW be its best self and continue to equip members to fulfill the UMW purpose?

  9. Take a few minutes to write your own story. You may want to include the following: • Who am I? • What matters to me? • What’s my relationship to UMW? • What drives me to go to meetings, give or offer leadership? • What difference does UMW make in my own life and in the lives of others?

  10. UMW will be recognized as a leading organization and trusted source of leadership and inspiration.(POSITION)

  11. We will cultivate and increase engagement, membership and giving.(ENGAGE)

  12. We will move women to new levels of leadership and action to build a thriving organization and change the world.(MOBILIZE)

  13. What is the work we will do in the world?

  14. Economic Inequality:We will push for the adoption of legislation that builds the base for a living wage in at least 25 states and municipalities by 2022.

  15. Criminalization of Communities of Color:We will focus on interrupting the school to prison pipeline by working for a 25% decrease in school arrests and the redesigning of zero-tolerance policies in local school districts.

  16. Climate Justice:We will advocate for a 25% reduction of carbon emissions by the top two contributing sectors by 2024.

  17. Maternal and Child Health:We will work to decrease maternal mortality by calling for the establishment of Maternal Mortality Review Committees in every state and building a network of MCH advocates to fight for comprehensive reproductive health care and education.

  18. How do we know we are thriving?

  19. Membership:We will increase UMW membership by 2% in every local district by 2020.

  20. Identity:75% of the reporting local units are engaging in identity (leadership development, spiritual growth, transformative education, and service and advocacy).

  21. Relationships:Develop or deepen relationships with two United Methodist entities in each of these areas: economic inequality, criminalization, MCH, climate justice, membership and identity.

  22. Your leadership will be essential in meeting these ambitious goals and creating a thriving organization. How are we preparing to thrive locally and at the district and conference levels?

  23. When women, children and youth thrive, we all thrive.
