  2. Participation from JNU Professor Manoj Pant attended the Geneva meet and Bangkok workshop both as a participant and as a resource person

  3. Rationale for the Participation • Purpose of JNU has been to try and understand the problems and issues of universities in other developing countries • Find common solutions - Vi teaching and training material

  4. Centre for International Trade and Development (CITD), JNU • CITD focuses on teaching and research in the area of International Trade and Development. • MA in Economics (with specialization in the World Economy) • MPhil in International Trade and Development • PhD in Economics

  5. CITD, JNU Thrust areas of teaching and research are • Trade and Development • Investment • Technology • Environment • Natural Resources • Finance • Poverty and Inequality • Social Sectors.

  6. Benefits to the University Access to VI network • Has been useful to both teachers and students in terms of availability of data and course material • Provides good opportunity to interact with researchers and teachers from other developing country universities.

  7. Bangkok Workshop The workshop had presentations on • FDI and International Investment Agreements • Trade and Development issues from representatives of countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh

  8. Bangkok Workshop (Positive Points) Extremely well received presentations Teaching material was very relevant to the courses already being taught at CITD, JNU

  9. Use of the Workshop and Material Distributed • IIA presentation has been incorporated into the teaching of an M.A. course at JNU, titled “Transnational Corporations, Technology Transfer and R&D” • Students refer to the teaching material and website. For easy access, the material is being kept in the library both in book as well as CD form.

  10. Suggestions for Future Workshops The workshop • was concentrated with lectures and little time was kept for country participation. • all country presentations were clubbed in one session • needs more time to encourage greater country participation

  11. Suggestions for Future Workshops • Joint projects to be encouraged among developing country researchers so that they work collectively on issues of common interest • Include trade in services in the form of Business Process Outsourcing • Linkages with environment
