Childhood • She was born in Rangoon (capital of Myanmar) • Her dad died (was murdered) from his rivals when Sun Kyi was only 2 years old. • She was raised by her mother which at that time was working at External Affairs Ministry but then she became Myanmar's ambassador to India.
Education • Sun Kyi finished her primary school in Rangoon but after moving to India she continued her studies there. • She graduated Oxford University in 1967.
In her first political move she joined National League for Democracy as a secretary. These moves were against the method of her countries politics. • She gave a lot of speeches. • A year after she was put under house arrest and in the same year her mother passed away.
Freedom?? • After her house arrest her opinions on the democracy in Myanmar were still the same. • She tried to gather as much people as possible not only people who lived in Myanmar but in other countries too. • But the military rulers restricted her moves during 1996.
RE-lease × RE-detention • In 2003 she was arrested (in prison), but in the early 2004 she moved back under house arrest .
Rewarded but still arrested Sun Kyi has won different awards but most important the Nobel Prize.

Postponing studies, SuuKyi joins U.N. Secretariat as Assistant Secretary. • 1972: January 1. Marries Michael Aris • 1973: They return to England for birth of Alexander in London. • 1974: Michael assumes appointment at Oxford University. • 1977: Birth of second son, Kim at Oxford. • 1984: Publishes “Aung San” • 1985: Publishes “Let's Visit Myanmar” also books on Nepal and Bhutan • 1985-86: Visiting Scholar, Center of Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University
1986: Alexander and Kim take part in traditional Buddhist ceremony of initiation into monk-hood. • 1988: Moves her ailing mother to family home on University Avenue in Rangoon. • 1989: SuuKyi continues campaign despite harassment, arrests and killings by soldiers. • 1990: Despite detention of SuuKyi, NLD wins election with 82% of parliamentary seats. SLORC refuses to recognise results. • 1990: SuuKyi granted 1990 Rafto Human Rights Prize. • 1991: European Parliament awards SuuKyi Sakharov human rights prize. • 1991: Norwegian Nobel Committee announces SuuKyi as the Winner of 1991 Peace Prize. • 1991: December: “Freedom from Fear” was published. • 1992: SuuKyi announces that she will use $1.3 million prize money to establish health and education trust for Burmese people. • 1993: Group of Nobel Peace Laureates, denied entry to Myanmar • 1995: SLORC releases SuuKyi from hous1999: Her husband, Michael Aris died of cancer. • 2000: She was detained again. • 2002: Released after two years. • 2003: Detained ever since. • e arrest after six years of detention
