David’s Despair Psalm 39 1-4: Sullen Despair • We may think that God’s discipline is underserved. • I will hold my tongue and say nothing. • Nothing good will come out of it.
David’s Despair Psalm 39 5-10: Two Humbling Truths: • 5-6: Recognizing the brevity of life and our fragile human condition makes us long for deliverance from God. • Life is empty without God’s favor. • Life is the length of four fingers put together. • So much effort for money you can’t keep.
David’s Despair Psalm 39 7-10: Our turning point. • Why do we wait on the Lord? • Because He delights in helping us. • When we recognize the sharpening of God, we have hope.
David’s Despair Psalm 39 9-10: Will the suffering last? • It hurts. • But there is purpose. • The hand that disciplines is the hand that delivers.
