Exclamation Points! Anexclamation pointis used after some interjections and at the end of exclamatory sentences. Example: Oh no! I just fell down the stairs again for the 7th time today.
Question Marks! Question marksare used at the end of interrogative sentences. Example:Did you fall down the stairs for the 7th time?
Semicolons! A semicolon is used to: • Separate clauses in a compound sentence when they are not joined by conjunctions. • To separate clauses in a compound sentence that are connected by conjunctive adverbs. • To separate phrases or clauses of the same type that contain internal punctuation. • Before expressions such as for example and namely when they are used to introduce examples. Example: I sprained my ankle falling down the stairs; therefore, I was not able to play the game.
Colons! A colon is used: -Before a list when terms such as the following or as follows are used -After the salutation of a business letter Example:The things I need to bring to camp are as follows: toothbrush, clothes and lunch.
