WPAHQHistory (Cont.) • February 1972 - Virginia Finn (North Hills Passavant Hospital) wrote to administrators of 109 participating Blue Cross hospitals in Western Pennsylvania and introduced the idea of initiating a Utilization Review group
WPAHQHistory (Cont.) • May 16, 1972 - First meeting was held at Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh • Twenty-nine representatives of nineteen hospitals were present
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania May 16th, 1972 • The organization chose “The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania” as it’s name.
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • Officers first named for the organization were: 1. President - Virginia Finn (North Hills Passavant Hospital) 2. Vice President - Dorothy Strubel (Westmoreland Hospital) 3. Secretary/Treasurer - June Albert (Hamot Medical Center) 4. Assistant Secretary/Treasurer - Mary Ann Darragh (Western Psychiatric Institute)
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • September 1972 - The Constitution and By-Laws were developed • 1973 - The President appointed the position of Librarian/Historian • The Organization grew rapidly and the meetings had to be moved from various Hospitals to public accommodations • 1973 - Skilled Nursing Facilities expressed an interest in joining, thus the first sub-interest group was formed
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • 1973 - The Association Produced a Utilization Review Coordinators Manual for new U.R. staff to use as an orientation tool
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • 1974 - Psychiatric sub-group was organized • 1974 - Office of Secretary/Treasurer became two Offices
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • 1974 - The state organization was formed (Pennsylvania Association of Utilization Review Coordinators {PAURC})
Pennsylvania Association of Utilization Review Coordinators (Cont.) PAURC • The first state meeting was held in Hershey • Approval was received as a satellite group of the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • 1975 - May the office of Vice-President became President Elect • The Medical Records Association granted continuing education credits to AMRA members for attendance at the Association meetings
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • 1976 - National Utilization Review Coordinators was formed (NAURC) • 1977 - Donated $500.00 to the Johnstown Flood Relief Fund
The Association of Utilization Review Coordinators of Western Pennsylvania • 1979 - Was a real transition year • 1. There was expanding Membership role with new Priorities • 2. The name was changed to Association of Quality Assurance Professionals of Western Pennsylvania (AQAPWP)
AQAPWP • 3. It was agreed that a treasury balance of $500.00 would be carried from year to year • 4. The association sponsored a seminar on “Revised Concurrent Utilization” by Joanne Lamphery, INTERQUAL • +This seminar was a revolution in the evolution of what is practiced today

AQAPWP WPAHQ • 1992 - Our name was changed from the Association of Qualtiy Assurance Professional of Western Pennsylvania to The Western Pennsylvania Association for Health Care Quality (WPAHQ)
WPAHQ • 1992 - We celabrated our present Logo
WPAHQ • 1994 - We formed the Alternative Healthcare Sub-group
WPAHQ • 1997 - We renamed and changed the focus on the sub-group for Utilization Management to Case Management • 1997 - Our Twenty-Fifth (25) year
