There are three methods of grilling foods • Under a source of heat, for example, using a salamander or the grill function of an oven • Between two sources of heat, for example, using a toaster or panini machine. • Using an overheat source, for example, using a barbecue or grill plate
Answers to Activity 37 • Grilling is the process of cooking food by placing it in direct contact with a heat source, or in its path. • There are three methods used to grill foods – placing food under the heat source, over the heat source, or between the sources of heat.
Examples of vegetables suited to grilling include: • tomatoes – halved with the core removed • aubergine (eggplant) – large slices • asparagus • capsicum • courgette (zucchini) – cut in half lengthwise • mushrooms • potatoes – pre-cooked first by boiling
