CERTIFICATION • A document is issued by a professionalgroup or government agency. • Certification means that a worker has meet certain educational requirements and standards.
HCP’s with Certification • Certified Dental Assistant • Certified Nursing Assistant • Certified Laboratory Technician
REGISTRATION • Granted by a professional group or government agency who keeps a list of qualified workers on file. • The HCP must pass an exam and maintain their qualifications.
HCP’s that are Registered • Registered Respiratory Therapist • Registered Dietitian • Registered Radiologic Technician
LICENSURE • A government agency grants licensure to work in certain areas of health care. • Obtaining and retaining licensure requires that the worker complete an approved educational program, pass a “state board”exam and maintain certain standards.
HCP’s that MUST have a license • Physician • Dentist • Physical Therapist • Registered Nurse • Licensed Practical Nurse

ACCREDITATION • Graduation from an accredited school is mandatory before certification, registration or licensure is granted.
ACCREDITATION “Ensures that the health education program meets a set standard.”
ACCREDITATION • Be a detective… make sure the program you want to attend is accredited before you sign up. • It would be a shame to waste your time and money!!
Agencies that grant accreditation status • Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) • Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)

When you finish school…Learning is not over. You must stay up to date with CEU’s.
CEU’S Arerequired to maintain certification, registration or to renew your license in most states.
The requirement for CEU’s may vary from state to state. It is the responsibility of the HCW to keep up with the requirements.
