100 Days in Bulgaria The beginning to a great adventure…
Teaching Responsibilities • 8th Grade - Conversational English • 9th Grade – Public Speaking • 11th Grade – Literature and Writing • 10th and 12th Grade – Monthly Class Visits
English Language Club • Creating a space for students to practice their spoken English • Student – driven conversations based on current issues • Developing an English / Bulgarian literary magazine, which will hopefully be published quarterly
Speaking Competition • Weekly meetings with students preparing for the regional and (soon) national competition • Providing feedback to students regarding their speeches, power point presentations, and ability to respond to questions • Students won the regional competition with a PERFECT score!
TOEFL / SAT Preparation • Autumn Quarter: weekly meetings with a small group of 11th and 12th grade students who took the TOEFL and SAT this month • Provided feedback on the essay portion of the exam and monitored full-length practice exams • Winter & Spring Quarters: weekly class designed to assist students in preparing for the exams
Active IDEAS • Opportunity to meet with students and English speaking neighbors outside of school • Events include collecting clothes for local orphanages, classes on recycling / re-using materials, and the slow food movement
SWAN Festival • Assisting in the grant writing process for the festival • Also helping to find international artists for the festival and working to find the funding that they will need to participate
ETA Resource Center • Designing a website with information specific to teaching EFL in Bulgaria • Includes sections for classroom management, adjusting to the school system, and lesson planning • Will soon need your input for additional lesson plans to upload once the site design is complete!
