Objectives Not Negotiable! • Determined by • Texas Education Agency • Local District • Campus Site-based Committee TEKS Course Curriculum Guide State-Approved Texts – Teachers’ Editions
Anticipatory Set To grab and focus student’s attention toward the lesson. Ex. Video clips, PowerPoint, props, interesting materials, poem, story, picture, unusual objects, music lyrics, costumes, etc. "the hook"
Teaching Input Modeling • Check for Understanding • Questioning
Input Input is different ways of teaching a lesson. It should engage the learner. Examples: Interactive discussions that include presentation of information, questioning, sharing of ideas and points of view, etc. Technology – instructional software, distance learning, exploration on the world wide web, etc. Discovery or investigative learning – research, interviews, field trips, etc.
Modeling • Demonstration showing examples of what you expect for the students to accomplish. For example . . . Working through a math problem with students. Showing what a paper crane looks like before having students fold their own
Check for Understanding See if students “got it”. If not, re-input and re- model. Questioning: Aim for higher levels on the Bloom’s taxonomy (revised by Krathwahl) Ex. Ask more than if the students just remember what was said.
Guided Practice/Monitoring Students work under supervision and instruction of teacher as needed. Ex. Teacher strolls throughout classroom observing and helping struggling students
Closure How to bring the lesson to an end without losing the students’ interest in the lesson. Major points learned during the lesson are reinforced at this time. Cue students that the end is near: Time expired, goals reached. Review what was learned or what should have been learned.
Independent Practice Student(s) work separated from teaching • Cooperative learning projects • Personal assignments • Homework
Where can I find the BISD lesson plan form? • www.birdville.k12.tx.us
What am I expected to do with my plans? Your assignment is to plan and teach a 20 minute (or longer) lesson during the 3rd six weeks: • Must match your curriculum • Must be an original plan • Must be approved by your mentor teacher • Must select a date on calendar
Dates for Lesson Presentation(Tentative) • November 18, 19, 20 • December 2, 3, 4 • December 9, 10,11 • December 16,17,18 • January 6, 7, 8
Let’s do an extreme makeover! Working with your campus teams, identify which part of the lesson plan the examples fit into. Sort and glue them to the part of the daily lesson plan in which you think they best fit. Discuss with team members and be prepared to share with the class.
“Bus driver, share that plan!”
