  2. Preliminaries • Make a list of 5 places which are both interesting and familiar to you.

  3. Objectives: • The students will be able to pre-write and draft a 3-paragraph essay describing a place that is both familiar and interesting to them while using transitional words and phrases effectively.

  4. Focus Lesson: Writing… • Pre-writing (pp. 384-386) • Choosing a place • Gathering details (sensory and factual) • Stating the Controlling Impression: Thesis Statement • Organizing Details: Topic and Supporting Sentences • Drafting (pp. 387-388) • Sentence Construction from pre-write • Transitional words and phrases

  5. Homework: Draft (due 12/11) • Finish writing the draft.
