Sochi • I think that the winter Olympic games has to be in Sochi because of the climate, and because of his landmarks and layouts. Sochi is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, situated just north of Russia's border with the de facto independent republic of Abkhazia, on the Black Sea coast. Greater Sochi sprawls for 145 kilometers along the shores of the Black Sea near the Caucasus Mountains. Sochi has a population of 343,285.
History • The area where Sochi is found was for centuries inhabited by the Khazars, a group nomads from Asia. • The land's ownership went from the Byzantine to the Ottoman Empire until 1829 when it officially became a part of Russia. Sochi was founded with the idea of tourism and resorts in mind in 1898.
Layout and landmarks • Sochi is almost unique among larger Russian cities as having some aspects of a subtropical resort. Apart from the Caucasus Mountains, pebble and sand beaches, the city attracts vacation-goers with its subtropical vegetation, numerous parks, monuments, and extravagant Stalinist architecture. About two million people visit Greater Sochi each summer.
Winter Olympic Games The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games, or the 22nd Winter Olympics, is a major international multi-sport event scheduled to be celebrated from 7 to 23 February 2014, in Sochi, Russia with some events held in the resort town of Krasnaya Polyana. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Sochi Organizing Committee (SOOC). The 2014 Winter Olympics will become the second Olympics hosted by Russia. Previously, Russia hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. These are the first Olympics (and first Winter Olympics altogether) for the Russian Federation however, as the 1980 Summer Olympics were in the former Soviet Union.
