For Managers only: How you can help your people through change • If a change directly impacts someone, make sure you tell them individually first • Clearly state ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘what happens if we don’t’ • Believe in what you are doing and the business rationale • Remind people what is not changing • Be open, honest and consistent • Communicate little and often and as much as possible, face to face • Make your communications two-way (listen) and provide people with different ways to ask questions • Check for understanding – don’t assume • Involve people – gain their input & let them influence the change (if not the ‘what’, maybe the ‘how’) • Give people time and space to understand • Know your people – likely response and likely reaction • Use any information you have about how they might react (e.g. OHS & BT Passport) People experience a range of emotions through change
