Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta Georgia. He lived from 1929 to 1968. He was born on Jan. 15th.He died in Memphis Tennessee on April 4th. He died when an assassin shot him in the head with a gun. After his death Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace prize. Dr. King had many speeches but one of the most famous ones was his “I have a dream, that my children will live in a world where they won’t be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character. I have a dream!!!!!!!” This speech was performed on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. It was in front of about 20050000 people who were both African American and not. Martin was from a middle class family and his dad and grandpa were preachers. Both his parents had gone to college. He lived in the neighborhood of Auburn Avenue. It was also known as Sweet Auburn, and Black Wall Street. Martin Luther’s favorite grandmother in his first years, whose death was in 1941 left Martin heartbroken. He was upset because his grandma had died because of a heart attack while Martin was at a parade that his parents had forbid him to go to. When Martin Luther King was 15 he went to college at Morehouse University in 1944. At college Martin liked medicine and law, but he decided to become a minister with his dad’s support. He graduated from college in 1948. After college Martin Luther went to Crozer Theological Seminary. He staid there for three years. Then he went to Boston University where he met Coretta Scott who he would later marry! Martin Luther settled his family in Montgomery Alabama. He had four kids. In Alabama he became the 20th pastor of The Decatur Avenue Baptist Church. In 1955 after Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat Dr. King started the famous Montgomery Bus Boycott. Dr. King was sent to jail over twenty times and once he was stabbed in his chest! Not all people believe in him and many people bombed King’s home. Martin Luther King was brave but he suffered. Dr. King always found ways of being peaceful while people around him tried to use violence to drive him down. In between 1957 and 1968 Dr. King traveled and gave over 2,500 speeches! His “I have a dream!” speech was the most famous of all. It was performed to over 25,000 people both African and not. Sadly Dr. King died on April 15th in 1968 because he was assassinated. He had changed the world. Dr. King had sent his message all around the world. Martin Luther King was an ordinary man with a big determined attitude. He had a courageous mind and a very calm nonviolent way of using it. Martin Luther Kin g had done what he had meant to do. Dr. King earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 1968. Martin Luther King Jr. was a peaceful man and his dream was equality. Black history Month was dedicated to him and other Africans who came before and after Dr. King. Even today Martin Luther King is still in our minds, hearts, and in the world. He lives on through people who follows his footsteps and he will NEVER die. Living On To Today
