  1. 11th INIS/ETDE Joint TechnicalCommittee MeetingAgenda Item 6.2Exchange of full text between INIS and ETDE –which are missing and how to ensure this is remedied Debbie Cutler, ETDE OA and Anatoli Tolstenkov, INIS 6-8 November 2007 Vienna, Austria

  2. Agenda Item 6.2(ETDE Perspective) • Since 1995, all INIS records are included in the ETDE database. • Records, describing NCL, contain the availability statement “Available from INIS in electronic form.” • Non-nuclear full text from ETDE members is available in ETDEWEB and via a PURL on commercial databases • In recent years, several members also sending in nuclear full text for direct ETDEWEB availability 11th JTC

  3. Agenda Item 6.2(ETDE Perspective) • For historical full text, and for non-ETDE countries’ full text, joint members asked for a mechanism to access INIS electronic NCL documents from the ETDEWEB DB • Benefit is that it could serve to increase full text usage at INIS 11th JTC

  4. Agenda Item 6.2 (cont.)(INIS perspective) • INIS digitization efforts for historical collection; authorizations from countries control access • Possibility of access to the INIS NCL server • Resources to make links into PURLs not trivial, but possible, as URLs are stable • If achieved, could be possible to provide a subset of the INIS NCL, respecting members’ access restrictions 11th JTC

  5. Agenda Item 6.2 (cont.)Discussion/Questions • Do members support INIS and ETDE working on ways to allow the full text from INIS to be accessed via the ETDE Database? • Do joint members agree that it is useful to have full text sent to both INIS and the ETDE OA such that it is searchable in both systems? • Should the ETDE access policy be consistent with the INIS NCL access policy for INIS-controlled full text? 11th JTC
