  3. Automobile • The Automobile was a symbol in the 1920s. • The Model T Ford • Affordable for the Middle-Class

  4. Impact of Automobiles • Became symbol of individual freedom and intelligence • Created new businesses • Ex. Gas Stations, Roadside Restaurants, Cabins • Made it easier for families to move to the suburbs

  5. The Radio • Family affordable • Nightly ritual after dinner • First commercial radio station was KDKA in Pittsburgh in 1920 • By 1926, there were more than 700 radio stations

  6. The movie • An escape from everyday life • Weekly outing • Originated in Hollywood, good filming weather • 1927- first major “talkie” The Jazz Singer • 1920-animation began, 1923- Walt Disney was founded • Action and comedy were favored
