GAMING IN KODUArchway Structured Workshop in preparation for year 9 project “Making a Computer Game for a Given Purpose”– Lesson 8
Learning Objective • Write the Learning objective onto your Self Assessment Sheet • LO: Learn how to add power-ups, health and timers.
Learning Outcomes • ALL students WILL be able to explain why extra features such as power-ups, health and timers add an extra level of depth to a game • MOST students WILL be able to explore existing code in complete games and identify / explain where these features are being used • SOME students WILL independently apply this knowledge in order to enhance their Kodu games adding extra depth and complexity
Explore the following 2 games… • Rock Fight —the player needs to grab hearts for ammo and loses points for shooting; the health monitor goes up has hearts are grabbed and down as ammo is released. Use arrows to move and left shift and z to launch rocks • Pandemica—the player needs to eat apples to accumulate points and be healed
What did you find? • Having explored these two games, what did you discover? • Timers? • Powers ups? • Health Bars / Monitors?
Activity – Game Creation • Using your homework sheets start / continue making your game. • Use what we have learnt today and the sheet provided to help think about how you could include: • Power ups • Health bars • Timers
Self Assessment • Use your Self Assessment Sheet to assess your progress against today’s learning objective.
