What does it take to be an effective educator? • A combination of understanding a students background, academically and in his/her personal life. • Looking deeply into a students IEP and acknowledging his goals, and what his specific needs. • Keeping high expectations for all students with and without disabilities however focusing my expectations on the goals of each student. • Know that each student is unique and has their own ways of learning, which may be shared with others • Open to different views (children, staff, community) • Being up to date with the modern technology and resources available
MUTES • Remembering that students learn from MUTES (video on How students learn) • M-memory • U-understanding • T-transfer • E-exercise • S-skills Students need to be able to grasp all of these aspects to fully understand what they are learning. So an effective teacher will make sure that all children's needs are met so he/she can succeed in the classroom.
Knowing what I do know about myself as a beginning teacher, what steps will I take to grow? • Focus on each of student individually, and understand that there are multiple ways to teach something. I will keep in mind that I have to find the teaching strategy that best helps my students especially the ones with a disability to understand the topic to the best of their ability. • Thinking about the video I watched Attitude is Altitude, I will remember that my attitude towards something makes a large difference. So keeping positive with my students, co-workers, families, community will help me grow as an effective teacher. Having an easier time to express what I am thinking. • When looking at students work in class, It helped me to learn that when students work is examined in fine detail, there are many characteristics that can be learned about a students learning ability that may not have been picked up on at the initial overview.
