  2. What is it? • At AS – we learn about the micro-features of film • Performance • Editing • Cinematography (camerawork) • Sets, costume, make-up (Mise-en-Scène) • Sound • At A2 – we learn about the macro-features of film • Narrative • Spectatorship • Film Movements (Expressionist Horror)

  3. What do we study? • Micro-Features, leading to analysis work • Film Production • Film Audiences • UK vs US Films • Working Title

  5. Breakdown • At AS • 40% coursework (analysis, production, evaluation) • 60% exam (1 paper – 3 questions – 2 ½ hours) • At A2 • 50% coursework • 50% exam (1 paper – 3 questions – 2 ¾ hours) • Film Studies is taught by: Mr Healey; Mrs Johnson

  7. Our Results 2010-11 *On average, our film students have indicator grades of C (30 sample size)

Our Track Record • The Media & Film Department sent more students away to University last year than any other single department in the school. • Destinations included: • Bath Spa – Media Communications • Brunel – Multi-Media Technology and Design • Winchester – Journalism • Bournemouth – Film Production • Buckinghamshire – Film & TV Production x 3

  9. Take this course if: • You love film • You want to know more about the stories, techniques and history of film • You enjoy a creative, practical subject • You can handle essays (Cs or above in English)

  10. Don’t take this course if: • You are looking for something easy • You just want to watch films – you can do that at home… • You struggle with essays (Ds or lower in English) • You aren’t really interested in learning more about film
