  4. Joining Twitter is Easy! Full name E-mail address Password Username Find people to follow Use “Who to Follow” in top bar menu Search for someone you know in the search box Follow me! @karafrib Follow public lists of other folks

  5. Using Twitter 140 character limit Sending someone a message @username Retweeting Click “retweet” in tweet box Replying “Click “reply” in tweet box Hashtags # Used to follow certain subjects

What’s helpful about Twitter? • Customizable Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) created for you, by you • You can follow anyone, even bigwigs in your profession • Students can follow you…if you want. • You can make your Twitter account what you want it to be. Strictly professional or personal. • You can make your Tweets private • The information is up to the minute!

Groups vs. Pages Groups Pages Always public – everyone can see it Anyone can follow a page Don’t need to “invite friends” to start • Public – everyone sees it • Closed – everyone sees, only members can post • Secret – only members have access • Best for conversations with a class • Need to “invite friends” to start up • Others can request to join, you can approve or not approve the request

Starting a Group Log in to your account Click on “Create Group” in left panel Set parameters of your group Pick an icon Name your group Invite members Select privacy Open Closed Secret Use it like your normal page! *Note: You can upload photos, not documents.Documents copy and paste easily from Word

Starting a Page Go to bottom of sign in page Click on “Create a page” Choose “Company, Organization, or Institution” Choose a category from drop-down menu: “Education” or “School” Type in the name of your class “Agree” to terms Sign in with your account Follow the steps provided (or skip them, whichever)!

  19. Creating an Account Click “I’m a Teacher” Enter username Enter e-mail Select a title (Mr., Mrs., Ms.) Enter name

  20. Entering Communities Act as PLN Find other teachers in your school Share resources with teachers from around the world Use “search” box to find areas that interest you Join the community You’ll receive posts from them

  21. Creating Groups Under “Groups” in left panel, select “Create” Enter Group (class) name Choose whether students can comment or if they are “read-only” Select a grade (or range) Select a subject area Click “Create!”

  22. What do my students need? • Just their name and the code for your class! • You are given the code as soon as you create the class • Give code verbally to students What about Parents? • There is a special “parent” code • Parents can only communicate with teachers and their child

  24. The Library Upload documents from your computer Create folders for organization View items you have attached in posts Upload assignments to classes from here too!
