Leatherback Migration Leatherbacks have the widest-ranging migration route of all of the marine turtle species. They are known to migrate across entire ocean basins. Female leatherbacks lay their eggs on tropical nesting beaches, but then migrate to foraging areas to feed on jellyfish.
Habitat and Diet • The leatherback sea turtles habitats are beaches, oceans , bays, lagoons, and near shore coastal areas. They spend all of their life at sea except the females who go back to the coast to lay eggs. • What they normally eat consists of jellyfish, tunicates, and other soft bodied animals. Their mouth is not capable of eating hard things.
Extra Facts • Leatherback sea turtles are the biggest species of all the sea turtles. • Leatherbacks have teeth designed to only be able to chew soft animals. • Only females go back to the coast in order to lay eggs. • Leatherback sea turtles usually have white spots on them.
