  4. Greetings and Introduction Feel free to interrupt with questions or suggestions - Let’s make this an informal, seminar session - Share your ideas! We have all been in the business for some time now and can learn a lot from each other.

  5.  History and Evolution of IT at TJHSST 1960 - Mimeograph, typewriters, phones, projectors, refrigerators 1970- TVs, VCR's, tape players 1982- COMPUTERS!!!! 1985- TJHSST Systems' LAB .... 1st Network, 1st Internet (1985) (partnership with local Industry), (student involvement in IT) 1988- Three math network labs with file/print server in each (one period allotted for IT) 1989- Library media network (half day IT)

  6. Continued…. 1990- Schoolwide network, more relationships with local industry, more time to attend seminars, conventions, and to present at such. (full time IT) 1993- Tri-School network, NASA connection to Internet (two full time IT) 1995- Introduction of POC (Point of Contact), see the handout 1995- Server Farm, CD-ROM towers, remote access, firewalls, number of computers and printers on the network increasing exponentially) 1997- TV network, computer network, phone network merged

Continued… 1999- High speed upgrades to infrastructure, FCPS countywide area network (three full-time IT, one part-time) 2001- Technology to the office automation, FCPS student information system. 2002- "Managing & Maintaining PC Systems," open curriculum course (see handout) Present- Some of the above grow, others phase out (evolution)

  8.  Administrator's Responsibilities and Vision VISION Technology is a tool that should/does: • Enhance instruction • Facilitate communication and documentation • Push leadership/ownership to students • Inform in a hands-on way about the power of Technology • Serve others through outreach – JOSTI/NESA RESPONSIBILITIES • Teaching and monitoring ethical use • Keeping up-to-date on technology • Pushing the comfort zone • Continual staff development of faculty and staff

  9.  Administrator and IT (techie's) TRUST • Communication • Building confidence in longevity • Commitment of real resources • Both material and people

  10. Differences in Admin Leadership Change (from Pete's perspective) • Previous school's (JEB STUART) Administrator • TJHSST, Geoff (somewhat technical), then Elizabeth (different, but complimentary, "give me a heads up, "explain what this meeting is about, what should I be looking for..“) • Professional freedom and trust, leg-room • Gratitude, compliments, "thank you's"
