Our Eco-Schools Committee • Here at BPS we feel it is very important to be aware of the problems that litter causes in both our school grounds and the wider community. • We are taking part in the Eco-Schools Litter Less Campaign as a whole school project.
We have devised an Eco-Code In our Primary School Litter can be a pain We pick it all up But it gathers again! We do try our best To make use of the bins To keep our school grounds Like needles and pins. Because of the squirrels Our crisp bags and wrappers Should not leave the classroom To become creature trappers! So to keep our school tidy And help us to help them Go get litter picking Join the LITTERLESS CAMPAIGN!!
We have identified where the Litter is worst in our grounds.
Then we created an Action Plan to tackle the problem areas… Identify why we are finding so much litter in our school grounds. Is it in specific places? Why is it gathering in these places? Is the litter generally of a specific kind? eg sweet wrappers etc Identify the various types of food waste at snack and lunch time and work to encourage children and adults in school to bin and recycle.
Make the wider school community aware of the problems that we have identified in school and how we plan to tackle the problem.
The way forward… • Walk around the school grounds and identify, photograph, record where we are finding litter, what litter there is and discuss why we think there is a problem • Goal 1 was discussed by the whole committee. Ryan and Ellie walked around school and identified where the litter problems are to be found and recorded, with teacher help, the types of litter and places it was found
Snack time and lunch times in school produce a lot of food waste. The committee would like to encourage the adults and children in school to stop putting their food waste into the classroom bins. Instead we hope that they will separate the food waste into a bin of it's own and this can then be recycled in the garden in compost bins. • Goal 2 has again been discussed by the whole committee. Mr Darcy is very keen that we take action with this goal and start fruit snack with no wrappers to litter.
Create a snappy slogan that will be prominently displayed in school as a reminder to everyone of the good work we are carrying out. • Put the slogan and our intentions on the school website for the wider school community of Board of Governors, parents, guardians and visitors to see.
We involved the wider community- Parents, Guardians and children from neighbouring schools
We hope you have enjoyed our presentation. Thank you for watching!
