  3. The Requirement: H. B. 558 Effective Sep 1, 1999 Males 18 & Less Than 26 Years Old Must Register With Selective Service Or Have An Exemption Prior to State Employment

  4. All Categories of U.T. System Employees • A & P • Classified • Faculty • Student Workers • Part-Time / Temporary / Occasional Exempted Categories • Visitor & Student Visas • Non-Immigrant Aliens Applicability

  5. Males Age 18 & Less Than 26 Must Register or Be Exempted  Selective Service Registration Forms At Any Post Office And On-Line Final Candidate Must Complete A UT Selective Service Service Form  Interviewers -- DO NOT ASK “THE AGE QUESTION” • UT System Forms Available From HR Employment & on HR Web Site Offer of Employment to Males Aged 18 & Less Than 26 Years Registered  Conditional Until Proof Is Provided  Candidates Unable or Unwilling to Provide Verification Are Ineligible For State Employment Impact On Hiring Practices

Human Resources Assistance • Identifying Males 18 & Less Than 26 Years Old Currently • Employed & Subject to this Requirement • Verifying Status of These Employees • Notifying Departments With Unregistered Workers • Ensuring That Employees Understand the Process • Providing A Verification Form When • Positions Are Posted

  7. Implications for the Future Hiring Dept. Will Have Primary Roles To • Verify Registration Status • Return to HR the UT System Form • Provide to HR “Proof” of Registration • Status For The Hired Candidate • Ensure “no grace period” of • Employment Prior To Proof • of Proper Registration Status
