David Leek • Coaching • 17th year coaching in some capacity • 11 years in MAMFA as both assistant coach (2) and head coach (9) and President for 7 years • 5 years at Evergreen HS – LB, RB, Special Teams, D Coordinator • Also coached wrestling at Conifer High School and Mountain Lax for 7 years and Lax at EHS for 2 years • Playing • All-State Midwest City High School in Oklahoma • United States Military Academy • Since then – 30 years of rugby
Coaching Philosophy • Coach from a place of positivity – 95% of what we are doing is correct • Value of playing sports • Discipline, teamwork, leadership, perseverance, courage • Primary Focus – building young people of character • Additional Focus – having fun, life lessons, winning, safe • Set standards for the team • Football is a tool & an opportunity – loyalty, honor, pride, hard work, competition, character, performing under pressure. • Keep team informed - communication
Player Expectations • Be on time • Academics • Playing time is earned in practice • Have to be there to practice • Opportunities arise during practices • Decisions will be explained – will not be debated • Class – sit in the front row – yes/no sir or ma’am • We are 7% of the school enrollment – we will be a positive force in the school
Player Expectations • Accountability • Every situation will be handled on a case by case basis • Players will be treated fairly may not be equally • Playing time can be affected • Only your player will be discussed • Contract • Players control – attitude, effort, focus, themselves

Academics Before Athletics • Academics is the most important part of your high school experience • Athletics are a privilege to get to play – Student/Athlete • Be a proud member of every sport and activity you do – remember to keep them in perspective in regards to academics • Grade checks are done weekly during the season • Failure to meet your academic obligations will result in you not being able to compete on the field. • Weekly calls made from EHS to home for D’s and F’s • Have high expectations, strive for A’s and B’s. • Check the Parent/Student Portal on the EHS website on a regular basis for assignments and grades. • Stay on top of your academic workload from day one – do not get behind.

Parent Expectations • Parents/Spectators should be in control of their emotions at all times and should cheer for their own players and teams • Parents should refrain from coaching their player from the sidelines • No derogatory remarks towards players, coaches, officials, etc. • 24 hour rule – concerns should always wait until a practice or competition is over and then a time can be set to discuss • Provide unconditional love and support during successes and failures
Parent Pledge • To accompany my child to as many orientation and informational meetings offered by the athletic department, as my schedule will permit. • To work closely with all school personnel to assure an appropriate academic, as well as athletic experience for my child while he/she is in high school. • To assure that my child will attend all scheduled practices and athletic contests. • To read, understand, and require my child to abide by all training and conduct rules. • To acknowledge the ultimate authority of the coach to determine strategy and player selection. • To promote mature behavior from students and parents during athletic contests. • To work cooperatively with other parents and school personnel to assure a wholesome and successful athletic program for our school. • To show respect to coaches, opponents, other parents, officials, and game workers at all times. • To work closely with coaches and other school personnel to identify a reasonable and realistic future for my child as a student athlete, both in high school and in college. • To represent the school, its athletic program, and my student-athlete in a positive manner.

Practice Outline • We generally practice Mon – Fri. Start at 3:30 and will end between 5:30 and 6:00 PM. • Freshmen and Sophomores practice together and often play in both the Level III and JV games. • Weight lifting on select days from 230 until 315 • Players are expected to be dressed and in the weight room no later than 3:25. • Players must participate in 9 practices before they are allowed to play in a game. • Team dinners are usually after practice on Wednesday.
Practice Schedule • Standard practice schedule – will change as game days change. • Monday – film review, cardio, lifting, offense and defense install • Tuesday – defense and lifting • Wednesday – offense and lifting and team dinner • Thursday – walk thru and part of team lifting • Friday – L3 and Varsity games – 1 Saturday Varsity game • Saturday – JV game and varsity yoga • Some weeks L3 will play on Thursdays and schedule will change for them – one set of Monday games – Eagle Valley
Equipment • Players are issued the following equipment: • Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Thigh/Knee/Tail Pads • Game jersey, pants, and socks • Practice jersey and pants • Players are responsible for providing the following: • Football shoes and replacement cleats • Mouth Guard • Athletic supporter and cup • Practice socks • Cold weather gear (navy blue) • Gloves (combo of navy blue, black, grey or white) • Gear Bag
Concussion Information • Helmet • 5 Star • Reconditioning program • Neck strength • Guardian caps • New Tackling and Blocking Techniques • Heads up • Hawk tackling • Amount of contact at practice – regulated by CHSAA • Hitting levels during practice – levels 0 thru 5 • New tackling dummies • Coaches training • Apps on coaches phones • Strict return to play protocol – overseen by Kate • Baseline screening
