  1. International Committee of the Red Cross Manufacture of Lower Limb Orthoses in PP INTRODUCTION Polypropylene Technology

  2. ICRC Polypropylene (PP) Technology What this training is about? This training is about the manufacturing/fabrication of lower limb orthoses with PP ICRC technology What this training is not about? First and above all it is not a clinical training.

  3. How the training isgoing to unfold? • There will be: • Theoretical presentation • Practical demonstration • Practical training • Coffee/Tea breaks & Lunch • Cleaning session (for everybody without exception) • Didactic material (Handouts) • Bilateral Evaluation at the end of the training

  4. How the training is going to unfold? Theoretical presentation: Mostly in the morning on subjects covered during the day. Practical presentation: If one picture is worth 1000 words how many words a live demonstration is worth?

  5. How the training is going to unfold? Practical training: It will consist of fabricating lower limb orthoses. You will work in pair, taking the cast from another participant You will have to manufacture 3 AFO orthoses, 1 PTKO fracture brace orthosis, 1 KAFO & 1 KO orthoses. Please note that if the work is not consider acceptable, you will have to redo the work. This should not affect, in any way, the total number of orthoses to fabricate but it might impede with your coffee/tea brake and lunch time.

  6. How is the training going to unfold? What about the upper extremity orthoses? For most orthotechnicians doing orthoses, the lower limb orthoses constitute 90 to 95% of their work. Therefore, we will stick with what is most often require.

  7. Glossary of the fabrication • Using ICRC technology, you will fabricate five lower limb orthoses with variety of fabricating approaches for the PP • One AFO orthosis for drop foot • One AFO orthosisfor correction of forefoot • One AFO orthosiswith Tamarack • One PTBO orthosisfor fracture brace • One KAFO orthosis • One KO orthosis

  8. How the training is going to unfold? Coffee/Tea break: A very important part of the training as you will need to take a rest and to replenish with carbohydrate. Remember, the brakes are of 15 minutes plus or minus five minutes (not 30 to 45 minutes) both in the morning and the afternoon.

  9. How the training is going to unfold? • Cleaning session: • It should be clear that nobody is excluded from this task. • A thirty minutes period is reserved at the end of the day to do the overall cleaning. • This does not precluded you from not keeping your working space as well as your tools, clean during the day, particularly the cast rectification room.

  10. How the training is going to unfold? • Didactic material (Handouts): • You will be hand over the ICRC Manufacturing Guidelines for the three following types of orthoses: • AFO • PTBO • KAFO

  11. How the training is going to unfold? • Didactic material (Handouts): • You will also received: • Catalogue & Price Lists, Orthopaedic Components (CR Equipment) Machines, Tools & Equipments, (CR Machinery • All the Presentation handouts • To enhance your understanding during the training, it is highly recommended that, prior to the course, you read the didactic material related to it as you would do for any training at school.

  12. How the training is going to unfold? • Bilateral Evaluation at the end of the training • A questionnaire will be hand over during last week of the training where you have to fill the part for the trainee. The instructor has his part to fill. • A period will be reserve to discuss about that questionnaire. • This questionnaire will be send to your employer/sponsor after the training.
