The total amount of contract research in 2012 amounted to 680million roubles UNN became the winner in the national competition of innovation infrastructure development programs receiving 150 million roubles under the Russian Federation Government Decree No. 219 for 2010-2012. Growth Zone for Medical Equipment Development and Biomedical High Technologies: 1.5 billion rubles. 4 projects of UNN received support in the framework of the grant competition to invite distinguished scholars (Government Decree No.220) A grant under the RF Government Decree No. 218 - 130 million roubles A grant for working with youth associations - 40 million roubles In 2012, UNN incorporated two institutions of higher education, as well as the Institute of Professional Development and the Polytechnic College The average salary of UNN staff in 2012 was 36.6 thousand rubles (compared to 19.5 thousand rubles in 2008).
Main areas of UNN’s innovative development (Strategy «UNN – 2020») The aim of the strategyis to ensure UNN’s sustainable development as a research and innovation university, to increase its competitiveness among the world's leading research and education centers, to promotesocial, economic and cultural development of the Nizhni Novgorod region and Russia in a global knowledge-based society The key competitive advantage of UNN-2020 will be the training of innovators, highly qualified and creative professionals possessing the qualities of entrepreneurs. The main areas of UNN’s development will be development platforms. Such platforms are broad areas of research, educational and innovative activity, that imply the integration of efforts of academic staff from various university departments on the project basis.

Joint European Project «TUNING RUSSIA» The project Contributes to the elaboration of a framework of comparable and compatible qualifications in each of the Bologna signatory countries, which should be described in terms of workload (ECTS credits), level, learning outcomes, competences and profiles for 3 cycles. UNN European partners: • University of Groningen, Netherlands • Trinity College, Ireland • University of Padova, Italy Since 2010 UNN has the right to create its own educationstandards. For developing this standards UNN applies TUNING methodology.
“Enhancing University Research and Entrepreneurial Capacity” supported by US - Russia Foundation US Partners: Purdue University, Indiana University of Maryland, College Park EURECA I: Pilot Phase (2010 – 2012) - successfully completed EURECA II: Evolvement of UNN Model Innovation Ecosystem, its Enhancement, Replication and Bringing to the Market (2013-2014) - approved for funding by USRF
Promotion of UNNin the QS World University Ranking UNN is determined to rise in the QS Ranking from its current "601+" position In February 2013, UNN signed a cooperation agreement with QS Currently, QS is conducting an expert evaluation of the educational and research activities of UNN under the «QS Stars» project. This evaluation will result in a comprehensive report and in the development of the «UNN roadmap» by QS experts. The project will run for three years, with an annual audit.
