ABET LEVEL 4 Background • National assessment. • 50% examination, 50% CASS. • WCED produced a set of recommended CASS items for the portfolio. • Pack of past question papers distributed. • Invigilator training. • Head office mentoring of ABET CAs. • EMDC workshops and quality circles.
ABET LEVEL 4 CASS • UMALUSI recommended 5 item portfolio. • Moderation of CASS by EMDCs - verified by HO and UMALUSI. • Portfolio progress but still ample room for improvement. • Structure of portfolio improved.
ABET LEVEL 4 Monitoring • HO, DOE, EMDC and UMALUSI involved in monitoring. • HO conducted 26 visits including all EMDCs. • Administration conducted professionally.
ABET LEVEL 4 Marking • Posts advertised for the first time. • Appointments done with union approval. • Meeting for markers and moderators dealt with all aspects of their tasks. • Chief markers attended memorandum discussion meetings in Pretoria. • Centralised marking centre. • UMALUSI reported that the standard of marking was good.
ABET LEVEL 4 Results • Examination – 663 registered learners 411 wrote.
ABET LEVEL 4 Results • Examination – 62% turnout rate.
ABET LEVEL 4 Results • Compared to June 2002, - More learners registered, wrote (% turnout increased). - Percentage passed (as written) increased from 49.9% to 59,9%
