Marques de rubi and the rubi report 1766-1768 • Agent of the Spanish government who toured missions and presidios in Spanish territory • He recommended: • Spain should abandon all missions and presidios in Texas except those at La Bahia and San Antonio • San Antonio should replace Los Adaes as the capital of Texas • The Spanish in East Texas should be moved to San Antonio • Spain should ally with the Comanche in order to win a war against the Apache • His report was endorsed by the Spanish government Los adaes Mission San Saba San Antonio de bexar La Bahia

Republican Army of the North vs. Spanish Colonial Army • Caused by joint American and Mexican forces issuing the “Declaration of Independence for a state of Texas” • Spanish colonial leaders sent General Arredondo to put down this uprising in San Antonio • Colonial Army wins decisively and executes American/Mexican prisoners • From this point forward, Spanish forces in Texas are brutal and oppressive • General Arredondo now acts as governor of Texas • This is the beginning of the Mexican struggle for independence from Spain The battle of medina August 1813 On the Medina river 15 miles south of san antonio
