Point of View • “An older, mobile individual, who is intimidated by the intensity and inconvenience of a workout routine, seeks a scalable and social activity that puts the fun back into exercise”
Prototype 1 • “Enhanced Wii” concept • Buddy capability • Heart rate tracking • Sensors on each limb • Adjustable sensitivity • (All in theory…)
Prototype 2 • Pong game • Head-tracking used (IR source, Wiimote) • Horizontal player motion, vertical paddle motion • Feedback: • IR connection needed improvement • Confusion with horizontal/vertical disconnect (Jumping and squatting in Starbucks...)
Prototype 3 • Paddles move side-to-side with player • Wiimote placed below TV • Ball speed increases with correct hits • Lamp bulb tested as IR source • Feedback: • IR and Wiimote connectivity still difficult, frustrating! • AI needs improvement • FUN and silly
Prototype 4 • Swinging motion added • Wiimote placed above TV • IR glasses on top of head • Feedback • Swinging made it harder but more engaging • IR connectivity much more consistent • Disconnect between player’s expectations and actual onscreen response, quality of motion • Slow to restart new games • Fun and engaging! • Game itself at a decent level, so now…
Prototype 5 • Buddy video and indicator revisited • Glasses on top of head • Swinging and non-swinging versions • Instant “New Game” button • Feedback: • Suit it to living room dimensions • More motion, more variety • Maintain game speed as you improve • Found buddy system engaging, “a kick!” • Really fun, lots of laughter!
Key insights for Future • Intuitive and clear presentation • Use motions for balance, strength, endurance • Provide encouragement • Pursue buddy networking capability • Track cumulative caloric progress, distance
Our most consistent feedback… • “IT’S REALLY FUN!!!!” Let’s see our users in action…
