REMINDER: If you haven’t gone online to fill out the Expectations Letter Receipt Form, please do so as soon as you can!

Language Arts Classes Reading Counts • Based on students Lexile scores (MAPS data) • Students take an electronic quiz to earn points or complete a book goal • Students may take a quiz 2 times • Students must have a 70% or better to earn credit for the book selected • Grades associated with RC will be reflected in Language Arts class

  3. Language Arts Classes The program offers… • Individual reports for students and teachers • Individualized book lists based on a student’s reading interests • Ability to set book goals or point goals for each student • Opportunities for students/teachers to create tests

Language Arts Classes Parent Communication\ • Parent Portal: If you are not signed up for Parent Portal, see Mrs. Singletary in the main office at some time during the school day for access to: • Grades and Attendance • Calendar (check this out for assignment due dates for your student(s) for every class in ONE PLACE) • Messages from school/teachers to parents (please make sure we have your e-mail address!)

Eliot Accessing Student Grades • Student grades will be posted online using the parent portal. • Parents will be notified when grades fall below a C and when students have missing assignments • Students will be able to redo and resubmit assignments with a grade lower than 90%. • Students with grades below 70% for major assignments will have to come in and redo them during Homeroom/Knight Time

Eliot Accessing Student GradesLanguage Arts Grading Scale • Work Habits 10%- Turning in assignments on time, deadlines • Writing Grades- Assignments will be graded in multiple areas according to rubrics • Content 20%- Understanding of Topic, Ideas, Details, Support and Development • Organization and Fluency 10%- Clarity and Coherence, Structures and Transitions, Flow • Language 10%- Grammar, Conventions, Word Choice, Spelling, Punctuation, etc • Speaking and Listening 20%- Oral Presentation, Class Discussions • Reading 30%- Reading Counts, Reading Craft Activities, Vocabulary

A Flipped Classroom? • This year I will be using lessons involving the concept of a Flipped Classroom. • In a Flipped Classroom, students will watch a lesson or video at home for homework and then come to class to apply and practice the concepts set out in the lesson. • This requires every student to have the ability to watch or access videos at home. • Let me know if this is an issue for your student
