Chisholm Trail • The cattle-drive trail from San Antonio, Texas, to Abilene, Kansas.
Transcontinental Railroad • A railroad that spans the continent. • RR Companies given land to sell to pay for construction.
Dawes Act (1887) • Federal Law distributing land to individual Indians rather than tribes. • Encouraged Indians to become assimilated.
Homestead Act (1892) • Federal law that grants tracks of land to western settlers. • Settlers agreed to work and live on the land for five years.
Exoduster • African Americans who migrated to the Great Plains following the civil war.
Populist Party • Political Party founded in 1892. • Called for policies to help working people. • Example: Government ownership of railroads.
