Objectives The common purpose of the consortium is based on the 2006 United Nation Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. “Respect for home and the family” Support people with disabilities in matters of marriage, family, parenthood, and relationship Support professionals/practitioners working with parents with intellectual disabilities Engage voluntary single people, voluntary elderly people, and voluntary families in lifelong learning and in meaningful activities (family visits) F4

Intention of the Family BUDDIES OnlineTraining • The Training will prepare volunteers for supporting parents with intellectual disabilities. • The training should frame the way people think about parenthood and disability. • It should break down stereotypes. • The training helps building up bridges between volunteers and parents with intellectual disabilities.
Who can participate in the FAMILY BUDDIES Online Training? • The training is targeted at adult volunteers who want to support parents with intellectual disabilities in many ways to live an integrated family life in society. • The FAMILY BUDDIES Online Training is available in English, German, Greece, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Spain and Romanian.
Concept • Needs oriented Training • Low threshold Training, no expert’s training. • Self-reflection – is one of the most important learning elements • Blended Learning Course - • Learning hours – The Online Training consists of about 50 learning-hours.

Module Description • I. Introduction/ Situation ofParents • Module 1 gives an introduction about the Online Training and offers information about the situation of parents with intellectual disabilities. • II. Values and Principals • Module 2 presents values and principals that are important when working with parents with intellectual disabilities.
III. Volunteering • Module 3 introduces voluntary work, describes who can be a volunteer, explains what are the needs of parents with intellectual disabilities and introduces the volunteer’s role in family. • IV. Self Reflection • Module 4 participants reflect their own attitude towards the target group and the working field. The participants will get to know basic knowledge concerning different ideas of man, and will connect these ideas with their own role comprehension. .
V. Child needs • Module 5 gives an overview about the basic needs of children, the main development stages of children and about main development disorders, and connections with parenting styles and concepts. • VI. Attachment • Module 6 gives an overview on main features of Bowlby’s attachment theory. It shows the importance of a successful attachment.
VII. Communication • Module 7 makes participants familiar with the basis of communication and interaction. One main content of module 7 is the communication between parents and children. • VIII. Child Protection • In Module 8 participants get information about risky circumstances and protection factors related to child protection, and strategies to safeguard children.
IX. Separation • In Module 9 participants learn more about how children and parents experience separation. There is various information about how to support parents and children in this situation and what kind of support programms do exist. • X. Situation Map • In Module 10 participants are dealing with concrete case studies concerning families with parents with intellectual disabilities.
