Northeast Community College’s 5-year Plan Priorities identified Expand support services for special populations Assure an adequate equipment base for high demand occupational programs Place a greater emphasis on activities intended to support a smooth transition from high school to college for career and technical students Develop stronger partnerships with area K-12 entities to further advance curriculum alignment efforts
Changes Implemented • Northeast has transitioned two grant funded positions to the general operating budget • Services to New Beginnings students have expanded to include all education centers • Additional funds have set aside to assist students in the New Beginnings program • Northeast has expanded the funds available to assist with activities through the Career Academies program • Northeast has added additional personnel to the Career Academies project • Northeast is launching additional academies

Budget approved by ESU Consortium of high schools supports: • Teacher training with stipends and support of the ‘Train the Trainer’ facilitator • Sustainable model which encourages academy expansion and new academy development • Career Academy student field trips • 7-12 Career awareness activities • Professional development opportunities for Career Academy personnel Perkins Funds Support
435 (duplicated) students in 22 schools participated • Schools adding academies in 2011-12 academic year • 7– Health Science Academy • 10 Into. To Health Science teachers trained • 9 new and 5 returning Med. Term. Teachers trained • 4 first-time Basic Nurse Aide instructors trained • 8 – Ag., Food and Natural Resources Academy • 7 new teachers trained for Crop Chemical Training • 5 – Skilled & Technical Sciences Academy • 3 trained in Intro. to Skilled &Technical Sciences • 2 trained in Computer-Assisted Drafting 2010-11 Nencap Outcomes
Add additional course options to strengthen existing Academies • Develop a list of all Career Academy courses sent via ITV with the intend to extend outreach • Continue and improve data tracking of participants (students and instructors) and provide additional opportunities for feedback to improve Academy courses and training • Meet with school administrators, students and parents to promote the benefits of Academy participation • Begin the process of adding new Academies • Expand career education outreach 2011-12 & Beyond

It is a priority of New Beginnings to encourage students to enter and succeed in high paying, high opportunity non-traditional jobs. Currently, we have 22 students who are enrolled in non-traditional programs for their gender.
