4.1 Recognize the extent to which a culture’s structures and values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or enhance privilege and power. • There are so many clients from different backgrounds and environments. They all have different values. It is significant that I do not allow my own personal opinions and values to get in the way of working with these clients.
4.2Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse groups. • If I put my personal feelings to the side I can deal with situations in a business format or have a business relationship. • Exp: client/social worker • Exp: Supervisor/worker
4.3 Recognize and communicate their understanding of the importance of difference in shaping life experiences. • I will take into consideration how my clients may feel and reflecting feelings.
4.4 View themselves as learners and engage those with whom they work as informants. • Being around clients who are diverse will help me learn about other cultures, beliefs, and values.
