Workshops: A park can request to have a training workshop held by the CFP team, or attend an existing regional workshop.
The National Park Service recognizes CFP member parks as environmental leaders in climate change work
CLIP Tool is a carbon management inventory and action planning tool designed specifically for national parks
Wide range of education and outreach products
Do Your Part! is an on-line program that empowers individuals to reduce their carbon emissions and thereby help to reduce climate change impacts on America’s national parks.

3. The Climate Friendly Parks (CFP) Program, a collaboration of the National Park Service and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, provides national parks with management tools and resources to address climate change.
Program approach
Develop understanding of CC impacts.
Measure GHG emissions.
Develop strategies to mitigate emissions and adapt to impacts (CC Action Plan).
Share successes and educate the public about what they can do in their own lives
The support provided to national parks by CFP includes technical assistance, tools, and resources
A collaboration between the National Park Service and Environmental Protection Agency to increase public understanding of the climate change issue and what can be done about it, through educational programs and modeling environmental leadership.
Provides national parks with support to address climate change both within park boundaries and the surrounding community
Three-pronged approach
Measure park-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
Develop sustainable strategies to mitigate emissions and adapt to climate change impacts
Educate the public about these efforts, and what they can do in their own lives to address climate change

4. National Parks are in a unique position to educate the public and provide environmental leadership.
NPS is responsible for preserving
and protecting our nation’s
natural resources
Large visitor population with
interest in environmental issues and preservation of natural resources
Educating visitors and park staff about the effects of climate change on the country’s natural wonders can energize the public to take action
National parks include rare and protected resources that respond to changes in climate in particular ways; for example, Glacier National Park contains glaciers that are significantly impacted by climate change
Since 1916, the NPS has been charged with the protection of public lands for the enjoyment of future generations.
CFP is a lead by example program that serves to demonstrate climate friendly behavior through the national park service.

Develop a GHG emission inventory
Participate in distance learning training sessions and begin using CLIP Tool. Additional technical assistance will be provided.
Complete an Action Plan
Participate in distance learning training session and complete the CLIP Tool.
A limited number of on-site workshops are available.
4. Continue with ongoing activities
Do Your Part!
Implement Action Plan
Monitor progress and report results
6. Emissions measurement
Uses activity/ source data sheets
Calculations hidden, but accessible
Data-storing/ movement capabilities
Best available methodologies
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Guidelines
EPA’s Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks
8. Import Emission Inventory Results
View and compare emission results and activity data by sector (Energy, Transportation, Waste, Other)
Set emission reduction goals
Use calculators and other features to plan mitigation actions and quantify emission reductions
Create an Action Plan

13. An on-line program that gives visitors the information they need to reduce their carbon emissions and thereby help to reduce climate change impacts on America’s national parks.
Helps participants make a plan to reduce their personal GHG emissions.
Promotes climate friendly actions at the household level.
Quantitatively benchmarks the emissions reductions achieved by individual and by each park.
Inspires individuals to join in collaborative action to reach common goals.
www.DoYourPartParks.org Increasing visitor’s awareness of climate change, and providing these visitors with tools to address their individual inventory of GHG emissions, is a major goal of the CFP Program.

Resources
The Emission Inventory Module of the CLIP Tool is designed to help park staff estimate (or inventory) the emissions resulting from activities occurring within the park. This module is designed to help a park identify the impact that employees, concessionaires, and visitors have on climate change and air pollution.
The Action Planning Module of the CLIP Tool is designed to help park staff identify actions to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and criteria air pollutants, and to target specific emission reductions associated with those actions. This module culminates in the development of an Action Plan that a park can use to establish the emission mitigation actions identified as goals for the park. The Emission Inventory Module of the CLIP Tool is designed to help park staff estimate (or inventory) the emissions resulting from activities occurring within the park.
